ISLAMABAD: A potential lockdown plan has been devised for the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally scheduled for tomorrow (September 8) in Sangjani.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party will hold a rally at Sangjani in Islamabad, Sept. 8.
The event – organized to mobilize support for imprisoned PTI leader and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, was initially scheduled to occur Aug. 26. The plan was modified after authorities withdrew permission for the rally and imposed roadblocks along access routes to Islamabad.
Heightened security will continue in and around Islamabad through Sept. 8 as a precaution. Officials are enforcing Section 144 orders across the city until further notice; the rules prohibit unauthorized public gatherings.
Two days before the rally, containers were placed on the sides of the Murree Road near the confluence of the twin cities at Faizabad. These containers remain in place at Faizabad, suggesting a possible lockdown strategy.
